The Carpenter Collection is dedicated to nineteenth- and twentieth-century records of land ownership in the U.S.A. It is divided into several sections by format: ca. 1,500 atlases [CCA], mostly county atlases; 28 books [CCB], and ca. 300 separate maps [CCM]. Access: While catalogued in Osgood, and available for consultation at OML, digital access is restricted. Instead, the collection is accessible through Historic Map Works.
Collection Donors
Charles and Dalinda Carpenter were long-time residents of Portland, Maine, and are now resident in the Dominican Republic where they focus their philanthropic efforts in building and equipping primary schools. Having assembled his very large collection of maps, atlases, and gazetteers, Charles Carpenter used them as the foundation for his company, Historic Map Works.
